Preparations for a Flood
Before
Know if you live in a flood plain: ask landlord, title company, Red Cross Chapter or the local planning and zoning department.
If you live in a flood prone area keep important information in a fire safe box away from where any potential water may get in.
Get Flood Insurance- most flood insurance policies takes thirty days to go through so start now.
During
Turn off Utilities.
Be Prepared to Evacuate.
Stay Out of Water.
After
Check for foundation damages - walls and floor cracks (make sure its safe).
Take pictures of damage.
Drain basement of water (most flood insurance policies do not cover personal property in basement).
Move objects off wet floors (this helps to prevent mold).

Tree Information
Tree damage can occur at any time but with high winds and wet grounds the damage could be much more severe. The trees most likely to cause the most damage are the dead or decaying trees, here are some tips in knowing what to look for.
1. Look for dead twigs, branches of small off colored leaves. Also look for dead wood, wood not swaying in the wind
2. Tree Cracks - Any on the tree means the tree is ailing.
3. Using a small knife scrape back the tree bark to see if it is green. If it is the branch is still alive, if you find brown or anything that is not green then the branch is dead.
4. Decay - Outside or in.
5. Cankers - these are big gashes taken out of the base of the tree or on big branches. They could be covered in bark again but it still shows that the tree has been weakened.
6. Poor Tree Architecture - a growth pattern that shows weakness or structural imbalance. Look for one side to be fuller than the other.
